One Block at a Time

If you've driven by our house the last few days, it may not seem like a lot of work has happened. But it has. Jeff and the concrete guys have been laying concrete blocks and filling them with mortar. These columns will be the core of the brick columns on our porches.

The front stairs in progress.

Getting the mortar in the right spots is tricky.

Building a column.

Using a level to make sure the column is straight. We don't want the porch to lean!

Do you like my hat?

Windows and Visitors

If the frequency of the blog posts doesn't tell you, we're pretty busy around here! Jeff works all day on the house, Sandy stays late at work doing paperwork, and Jonathan and Sarah are constantly involved in school stuff. Sometimes our schedules are all so different we hardly see each other for two days!

About two weeks ago we got a visit from Grandpa and his brothers. They wanted to check out the progress. Last time they were here we were still building basement walls. Doesn't that seem like a long time ago?
The guys pose in front of the house. That Caution Construction sign gets a lot of use!

Jeff shows off the ICF construction method.

If you didn't notice in the above pictures, we have almost all the windows in!

The front two bedroom windows upstairs will not be put in for a while, allowing things like drywall to be lifted into the upstairs.

Jeff explains about the Decra metal (but looks like Shingle) roof we'll be putting on.

Taking a tour, things look different with the windows in.

The living room with the windows installed. It is starting to feel like a real room!

Jeff points out the bathroom to his tour group.

The kitchen (viewed from the dinning room) with windows installed.

Looking from the kitchen into the study.

The massive front window, we love it!

Jeff installing windows upstairs.

Putting in the last upstairs windows!
